This searchable and sortable file holds 879 clinical trials of in vivo gene therapy registered internationally 2011 - 2021. We define gene therapy as treatments designed to cure disease by altering the patient's genetic code. In these "in vivo" clinical trials, the gene editing occurs inside the patient using viral vectors, plasmid DNA, etc. This data does not include clinical trials where ex vivo genetic editing is performed on cells that are then administered to the patient as cell therapy; those are covered in our database of advanced cell therapy. This data does not include viral vaccines as they do not carry a genetic sequence to alter the genetics of the patient and therefore do not constitute gene therapy. These 879 trials were found after manually screening 66,867 candidate trials.
